Understanding Draft System Types and Needs

Not all draft systems are built the same, and your gas setup should match how your system operates. Short-draw systems – which are typically found in smaller bars – run directly from the keg to the tap over a short distance and usually rely on 100% CO2. Long-draw systems – common in larger venues – move beer over longer distances and require a blended gas to maintain proper pressure and carbonation.

Matching the right gas blend to your system is critical. Using the wrong setup can lead to foamy pours, flat beer, and inconsistent quality. As experienced restaurant CO2 suppliers, Broward Nelson evaluates your system layout, pressure requirements, and product type to dial in the right solution for reliable performance.

Custom Gas Blends Built for Your System

Using just one type of beverage gas does not fit all situations. Broward Nelson customizes your beverage carbonation system based on the temperature, pressure, and beer type to determine the gas blend. High-pressure systems (15 PSI or higher) require a precise blend of gases at the proper gas pressure to achieve perfect carbonation at the faucet.

Ales and lagers dispensed from a high-pressure, long-draw system utilize a gas blend of 60% CO2 / 40% N2. However, ales and lagers dispensed from a low-pressure (less than 15 PSI) short-draw system utilize 100% CO2. Nitrogenated beers, such as Guinness utilize a gas blend of 25% CO2 / 75% N2 produced by a nitrogen generator or provided by our cylinder telemetry system. Fountain soft drinks require 100% CO2. The beer gas blender automatically blends and dispenses the precise amounts of beverage-grade carbon dioxide gas and draught-beer-grade nitrogen.

Precision Pours and Safe System Operation

Foamy and flat beer from the tap is money down the drain. The pprofitable pour solution from Broward Nelson will reduce waste, produce the most flavorful and highest quality beer generating more sales and improve keg yield, which means a more profitable draught program in your establishment.

Because CO2 is an asphyxiant, safe CO2 handling practices are essential in restaurant and beverage industry applications to prevent serious injuries. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends installing new carbon dioxide sensors and alarms at ground level in any enclosed area. It’s also important to inspect and maintain all components of the CO2 delivery system at regular intervals, including the fittings, hosing and tubing.

Maximizing Profitability Through Proper Gas Selection

Every keg has a set number of sellable pours. The way your gas system is configured determines how many of those actually make it into a glass. Incorrect gas blends or pressure settings can lead to excess foam, wasted product, and lost revenue.

By optimizing your gas mix and system pressure, our team helps you get the most out of every keg. Proper carbonation improves taste and presentation while reducing waste behind the bar. The result is fewer lost ounces, better consistency, and higher revenue per keg. With the right setup, your draft system works harder for your business without adding extra effort for your staff.
